My ex husband told me he was once in a cult, he lived with them and when he wanted to go they would not let him and he had to escape. I didn't get more detail and did not want to, but it figured when I thought about it that he was not a thinker, not someone who took responsibility or was deep and thoughtful, and most of the people I've met who have been in these situations were seeking a leader to think for them. So they could just obey orders and have an easy life.

Maybe that was the moonies? Is that the right word? Yes I agree with you anyone who gets sucked into any of those things is easily led. Many of them never think of resisting and end up being a tiny wheel in a big machine working to suit the leaders.

Which cults and sects are currently live and in action? I used to read about a lot of cults and sects and now never do. Then yesterday two Jehovah Witnesses turned up on my doorstep, seemed friendly, seemed normal, but wary because they have a habit of sending Christmas cards to every person in my street, that is about a hundred Christmas cards being sent out to this street alone, and we are all total strangers to them, never been to their meetings or embraced any of it. They spent a lot of time and money on this. Then you have the fact that I saw a programme about them recently where there was a lot of talk of elders being too eager to be friendly with the young women, too sexual with them, too bossy, and sometimes telling a member of their sect they could no longer be in touch with their family, not allowed to speak to their own children in the future, because it is one of their rules. There seemed to be a lot of evidence against them in this way. But are they classed as a religion or a sect?

The only cult I've had any experience of was the Jehovah Witnesses and they can be very pushy. They come around knocking on the door and send us little letters implying that we are full of sins and will wash away our sins if we join up. We find this insulting to say the least. They know nothing about us but send out these letters willy nilly to lots of people who live nearish to their meeting house. Hoping to get more members. How do they know who is a sinner and who is not, for all they know you are a minister they are writing to.

I would say that anyone who belongs to a cult is a follower not a thinker. What makes a cult some here are suggesting Jehovah witnesse are but couldn't that be said about any religion. so effectively there then becomes acceptable cults and unacceptable ones.
I very much hope you enjoy using these tarot forums and mystic forum and and return to use some of them again soon. Each forum has been carefully set up to please anyone who is interested in sharing knowledge about these subjects with others Worldwide.
