I often read bits and bobs about affirmations and wonder what they are? Never used to read anything about them years ago? How come it's here now and what is the point of it? What does it entail? Who would benefit from whatever this is?

I've been having readings for years and got no idea what they are. Then I read something about them on a website where a lady was offering to do them for people, there was a long list of different ones naming saints, it sounded very intriguing so I ordered one. I waited and waited and nothing happened, not anything at all. Eventually I had to put in to pay pal that I had not had my ordered delivered to get a refund. It was pretty disappointing I can tell you. I would have loved to have received it instead. It all sounded very mystical and exciting when I read about it on the site and I had geared myself up to get it. One of the things I do not understand is this. Why do things like readings change? The tarot cards have been around for a long time. So have many of the other methods. Yet this has suddenly sprung up out of nowhere as if they have invented a new idea. How can you invent a new idea over something which has been around such a long time? If anyone has done these affirmation readings or knows what they are about I would love for them to tell me about it.

From what I've seen in magazines and articles about these it is very much like a form of self hypnosis and prayer combined together as it always seems to be like a sort of white magic spell that you do on yourself. I've been to hypnotists and this is very much the way that works. By reinforcing positive ideas. Does not mean that it works though.

I also paid for an affirmation and did not receive it and had to get my money back through pay pal. It was £9.95 and I assumed she was retired or ill, as it was a photo of a very old lady! But I see her advertisements everywhere as if she is still trading. Elizabeth Francis is the name of the one who did that to me. Not impressed. Can anyone help me to write my own affirmation please?

I love long and unusual words. I am what they call a Quadragenarian: which means - a person between 40 and 49 years of age! lol. I't s a great word and makes it sound grander and younger than it really is. I've always believed in praying and affirmations just not sure how to do them for myself. I've been to a hypnosis person who did it for me - they told me they wrote what they call a script for me, before I went, I had told them I wanted help with being more confident - so that is what the script was for. Because it was about hypnosis rather than spiritual things they did not mention any spiritual stuff. It worked, it is still working. I may go back and get a top up soon to make it stronger.

I've been a psychic for a long time and this word affirmations is new to me, I've mixed with lots of clairvoyants and I mean proper professional ones not self proclaimed housewives etc. And the thing I know is this, the real stuff lasts, the tarot lasts because it works if done properly, affirmations sound a bit unreal and more like self delusion to me. Especially when the person is supposedly doing an affirmation that helps them to become very wealthy. Those are ridiculous. You only get to be wealthy by working hard or by winning the lottery, not an affirmation. If you win the lottery after doing an affirmation it was coincidence so don't kid yourself the affirmation worked.

I don't know what an affirmation is but from reading peoples replys there are people out there claiming to do them and they don't so those people would be scammers and others say they hadn't heard obout them till recently so are they just a way of making money

Having looked up the meaning of affirmations I am even more confused some relate it to prayer and hypnosis, it also means a statement that something is true and many more, but one thing that sticks with me is its about positive thinking and self enpowerment

I've had white magic spells done and to me it is the same thing. Only that you do it yourself and it does not need any herbs, cooking, potions, ingredients just words. I prefer the spell as that way I can make sure it is done properly and can sit back and leave it to someone with more wisdom and understanding of these things, rely on them so to speak.

Reminds me of these idiots who say they can manifest being healthy or rich or a fantastic partner just by thinking about it. Chatted to a weird guy on Quora once, Brian Rainie, California. He went on and on about how he was a great manifestor, the best, had a perfect life. Then as we continued to chat he was telling me... he was scared his wife would leave him because she preferred her job to being at home with him... his family were fed up with him always wanting to do psychic readings and healing for them. He did a Meet Up group, in person, and none of the people who turned up would ever contribute towards the cost of running it. He was extremely worried about money and said he had to get a paid job - yet he was about 70, past retirement age, and supposedly great at manifesting wealth! He had depression and his kidneys were not working well because he did not drink much water and had ended up in hospital several times with self damage. His wife had threatened to leave him if he does it again. He tried to date a lovely young woman, when his wife was away working, and could not understand how come when the woman found out he was married she lost interest! (Not the brightest of men, and he should have told her that first so she could decide that if she had values, confidence, self worth, intelligence and morals she would say no rather than waste her time).

This guy knew that I was dabbling in psychic stuff and kept telling me that I should arrange to take a group of people to look at Stone Henge as people would pay a lot of money for it. He had no idea whatsoever. It did not occur to him that others had already done all that, or that coach tours hire cheap school leavers to do such tours, they don't need to pay grown adults who are well paid professionals their going rates, nor did he think about security, travelling and much else. He came across as a silly child. Yet he had this fixed belief that he would one day be rich and have terrific health and a wonderful wife, despite having already believed all this for many years without success. Reminds me of when kids believe in father christmas.
